Ceiling Tiles.....

What a wonderful saying this talented 5th grader came up!

At the end of each year I have a ceiling tile contest.
The contest has become very popular at school.  I select 2 contest winners to create
their work on the tiles in the art room.

The STEAM lab now also has 2 tiles and

the library office got its first tile this year.

We use chalk pastels to create the tiles.

1st Grade Cow Jumping Over the Moon...Getting Ready for World Space Week....

Each year at my school we celebrate Space Week, which is Friday Oct 4-Thursday Oct 10 this year (2019). This years theme is "The Moon: Gateway to the Stars"

I love the image of the cow jumping over the moon. I had a student win the Judge's Choice Award in the TEXAS Art Educators Association Youth Art Contest back in 2009 for her cow over the moon. That painting hung in the Museum of Fine Arts Houston all summer that year. So proud of her. We are actually Facebook friends now that she is all grown up. I hope she remembers her elementary school art teacher when she is a famous artist!

So in honor of  World Space week I will read The Cow Jumped Over the Moon to my 1st grade and then we create art based on the work by Cally Jane Studios.

Art Ceiling Tiles 2016...

I have wanted to have art ceiling tiles in my art room for a long time but just never got around to doing it. So when I saw Cassie Stephens creating tiles for her school I got re-motivated. The problem was that I was running out of time with only 3 weeks left in school. So I had a contest to pick 2 winners that would have their designs turned into art ceiling tiles. We had 40 really, really good entries. It was hard for the judges to pick just 2....so they did'ent...they picked 4 and asked the artists to combine their work.

Tile design by Hannah and Shelby both 5th grade
 were selected.

Tile design by a different Hannah 5th grade was also selected
and the fish and crabs from this work was added to the other sunset design.

Tile design by Adam in 4th grade
 was selected

and tile design by Rachel in 1st grade was selected.
The flowers and butterflies from Rachel's work was added to the "ART" on Adam's tile.

I am so amazed at the work these five students created. They all worked together in amazing teams. It was so much fun, I can't wait until next year's contest.
