1st Grade Guitars with Yarn Strings...

I showed the 1st grade an acoustic guitar, which they all called
a cowboy guitar! Then we drew our own guitars using a Sharpie.
Students were asked to draw designs on their guitars.
Next we used water colors to paint our guitars.
The students had to measure out the black yarn for their strings. I added the lines of clear glue but the students had to attach their own strings.
The only reason I applied the glues is because clear glue is very expensive so I need to keep control over its distribution.

STEAM in Art Through Music...

I am taking a year long workshop/Professional Development class though my school district in Prince William County, Virginia. In one of our classes we were all given tubes cut into different keys or music notes. When you hit the tube on the palm of your hand it makes a sound in a specified key.
So I wanted to try this with 4th grade class. I wanted them to measure out the sizes but when I got the tube home the measurements were all off. So now I am designing a class about measurements...And had hubby measure and cut the tubes!

I bought colorful sharpies do everyone could decorate their own tube. The class is now very accomplished at playing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star".

Here are some inspiration YouTube videos that show PVC pipe tube music...

3rd Grade Music and Art Together...

Start with old music sheets you can get from your music teacher.

Draw paint brushes on the sheets with a pencil. Draw the brushes large
enough that you can include designs in the handles.

Then paint with watercolors
