2nd Grade Fish Prints Collage In the Style of Eric Carle...

First we randomly painted a 12x18 inch 90# piece of white paper using 2 colors of tempera paint.

My tables are set up by color so I put out the corresponding color paint on each table. Students were able to more to the table color of their choice.

The paintings were put on the drying rack for next week.

The following week students flipped the paper over and drew a large fish of their own design. Then cut it out.

Make sure to save the cut out parts of the paper, we will be using them later in the project.

I put out the colors again the second week but this time I gave them sponge stamps the 5th grade had cut for one of their projects.

Students used the sponges to create designs on their fish.

I use to just paint on the tables but I learned to use over sized manila paper for place mats at 

ART SCOUTS

It makes it easier to put the fish on the drying rack too.

Place the stamped fish on the drying rack for next week.

In the third rotation students use the scrap painted papers from the fish to create seaweed...

and layers on their fish.

Make sure to keep an eye on the sink.....

Kinder Spiders...

We used a ruler and a white crayon. Have you ever tried to use a ruler

in kindergarten! OMG....Do not do that on a day you also got a speeding ticket on the way to work.

There is a small but real frustration level. 

But it was totally worth it in the end. The kids did an awesome job and the spiders are too cute.

On a separate sheet of paper have students draw a spider with a black crayon and paint it with watercolors. 

Cut out the spider and glue it to the web.

One of my personal goals this year is to include more art based lesson assignments for kinder and 1st. based on books. As it turned out, improved reading skills is our schools big objective push for this year as well!

Art Camp 101....Ode to Eric Carle

We used tempera paint and assorted scraping and printing tools to create patterns in the wet paint.

After the paper dried we cut out pieces to use in making our owls.

We layered up the painted paper cut outs.

3rd grade Fish Bones...

Day one we created watercolor paper in the style of Eric Carle using, salt, wax, rubbing alcohol and plastic wrap.

Day 2 we cut up the watercolor paper and made fish bones then glued them to black 12x18 construction paper.

Save the scraps to make something else....

In this case it was Valentine's Day so we used the scraps to make hearts, then glued them on to music sheets the music teacher gave us.  The kids gave them to their parents....big hit!
