Annie Jr. at Cedar Point Elementary....March 2018

My school put on our first play this year. We have a 4th and 5th grade drama teacher Ms. Little who is directing. Mrs. Little selected Annie Jr. There was the cast, directed brilliantly by Ms. Little, the back stage crew headed up by Parker Solomon, music direction by Ryan Davis, the lighting crew lead by Kate Sheridan, the front of the house crew, the set design members, which I lead and Mrs. Laing, who was in charge of the costumes.

The set design crew on our first day. We started the Annie Jr. sign and painted the orphanage boards gray.

The first night the kids had homework...everyone had to create their own version of the sets. I ended up picking out the best ideas from everyone's drawing and making that our sets.

Day 2 of set design. There was a lot of paint on the floor!

Day 3...our sign was finished!

Hubby sketching out more detailed drawings from ....

my original sketches for the flats.

Hubby selecting the wheels for the back drops.
Here we are at Lowes way back in the beginning picking out the hardware and lumber for the sets.

Creating trash cans.

We made most of the props out of cardboard boxes. Even my son helped out by painting a trash can.

Started on the old fashion microphones.

Of all the props and sets we made this lamp is my favorite.

The director wanted a laundry cart with wheels and a giant gift box that the dog could be brought onto the stage in. Hubby made a rolling cart out for my lesson plan example box. Of course I had to test it out to make sure it was strong!!!

We used this giant box with the bottom cut out and just slipped it over the rolling basket.

The old radio...

Hubby put the sets together on Sundays at school in the loading dock area.

The legs for the set flats.

Adding an actual working light.

We quickly realized the flats were WAY to tall to fit through the doors...

So we took them apart and...

and reassembled them on the stage...

and checked to make sure the light worked of course!!!

Some of the props were going to be used in from of the certain so they had to be easy to move and light weight. We used thick foam core board for those signs.

This was and amazing experience for me. I loved every minute of it. The kids did a great job. It was  so magical fashioning things out of nothing or in this case out of cardboard.
