I am doing a book study on "Launch -using design thinking to boost creativity and bring out the maker in every student" by John Spencer and A. J. Juliani.
The authors make a great point in the book I would like to share- "Unfortunately, schools are more I then designed to help students answer questions rather than question answers. Students rarely have the chance to ask whatever questions they have or go off on a rabbit trail to find the answers" (Launch 72).
We as art teachers give kids the ability to follow the rabbit trail. When students feel free to pursue questions in art it opens them up to finding answers in other subjects as well. This is a great art advocacy point to bring up with your administrators.
