I have the sub put random art supplies in a brown paper bag. Each table gets a bag. Students at each table arrange the supplies in an overlapping still life arrangement. Using a pencil students must fill the page with the still life. If there is a lot of free space ask the students to pick their favorite art supply and repeat it in the open areas. When the composition looks complete ask students to outline it in Sharpie. When the outlining is complete students will watercolor the project.
For those days when you are too sick to work but would rather go in than write out long sub plans but just can't get out of bed!
