10am-12pm- Mask Making at the Elementary Level
The indigenous Costa Rican tribe Boruca is known for its ornately carved and vibrantly painted
wooden masks. The masks come in many different varieties and styles, but authentic Boruca
masks demonstrate an expert craft, passed down for centuries. We will create our own Boruca
mask with cardboard and clay.
Free for VAEA members and $5 for non-members

1pm-5pm- Basic Zentangle
The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by
drawing structured meditative patterns. This is an empowering and uplifting experience; you
can deliberately relax and intentionally direct your attention while creating beautiful works of
art. As you practice the Zentangle Method you will discover increased focus and a change in
mood and state of mind. All supplies will be provided -If you would like to buy your own
Zentangle pen kit to work with in class and take home the cost is $25 and the fee will be waived.

Instructor:
Lee Darter is the Elementary art teacher at Cedar Point Elementary Bristow, VA in PWC. Lee has
been teaching elementary art for 20 years and is also an instructor at the Workhouse in Lorton
and at the Candy Factory in Manassas.
In addition, Lee writes lesson plans for classroom teachers for the Surkura and Zentangle
companies to include in their Zentangle kits. She holds a BFA in Advertising design and a M.Ed
in Art Education. Lee specializes in Paper Mache, bookbinding, Zentangle and Mixed Media art.
