#stackingbirds
After watching a power point on John James Audubon 1st grade created stacking birds in watercolor. The birds had to go all the way to the top and get smaller as they go up.
Well he tried to go all the way to the top! For some reason it is hard to get the small ones to work big!
We used pencil first then a "baby" Sharpie then watercolors.
I read on deepspacesparkle.com (another great art blog!) that the reason kids have trouble working BIG is because of the pencil! Pencils are designed for small, intricate work. She recommends skipping the pencil and going straight to the sharpie! Markers are meant for BIG work!
ReplyDeleteMallory, I agree. I do not give pencils to Kinders until the end of the year. They usually get crayons or markers to draw with mainly because that is what they are use to. But I have 5th graders who will not fill the page either!
